Sparlock spotted in Taiwan
by Steve_C inno, not 'made in taiwan,' but actually in taiwan.. i thought you might enjoy some photos of yours truly engaging in heathen activities while wearing my new sparlock t-shirt.
i'm not really a taoist/buddhist, but sporting the warrior wizard shirt while burning incense in the temple made me feel like some kind of naughty double-apostate .
the one-hundred+ year-old wu fu ("five fortunes") temple, near my apartment.

Were you a JW trophy wife? Not necessarily a serious thread.
by FlyingHighNow insal, it's funny but things were much more shallow in the dubs.
i noticed some of the ugliest blokes getting pretty little trophy wives so long as they had a job or were the sons of elders.
my dad (an elder) even went so far as to encourage me to come back to the dubs because i would easily pull a good looking wife .

Add your favorite JW prayer cliche'
by King Solomon inyou know what i'm talking about: the trite, often-repeated phrases that convey the person offering the prayer has drawn a mental blank, and utters these words while their brain desperately searches for the next cliche', so they can conclude the ritual with the required tag, "in jesus' name we pray".... (is that like the postage stamp?).
ok, i'll kick this one off, and take the most obvious:.
"forgive us where we fall short....".

At large JW food-eating gathering prior to eating:
"Bless this food and bless the hands that prepared it."
I don't hear this one very often, but there's on JW around these parts who is guaranteed to include it in any pre-meal prayer.
How exactly is the "blessing" of the food and the hands supposed to happen?

Would You Listen To A Prayer From A JW And Say Amen If They Said A Prayer In Your Presence?
by minimus inmy mom has had visits from various jws and they have asked her if they could say a prayer before they left.
i respectfully listened to the prayers while i was visiting and might silently say amen if i felt the prayer was appropriate for my mom.. i'm just curious, how would you handle this type of situation?.

My wife and I have both been saying "AYMEN" after all JW prayers for a couple years now.
We just add a "G" before it and see how loud we can say it before anyone notices.

Rule Britannia! Britannia rule the road!
Congratulations (possibly premature) to Bradley Wiggins and all the Brits.
Unless he gets hit by a bus tonight, Bradley will be first Briton EVER to win the Tour de France.
Well done Mr. Wiggins.

New Article - Birthdays, Why the Watchtower stance is wrong
by jwfacts ini have a new article at http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/birthdays.php outlining why the watchtower stance against birthdays is wrong.
there have been a number of threads on jwn discussing this, and the article collates and summarises the points raised in these threads.

Looks like Wiggins is gonna pull this thing off!
18 Km left on the individual time trial and he's about 0:55 ahead of the field on this stage.
Unless he crashes, he'll wear the yellow jersey in Paris tomorrow for the overall win.

Shunning is easy
by Paralipomenon inupon reflection over the past 5 years of being out, i've had a lot of time to consider my time as a witness as well as come to terms with my parents shunning us.. that was the biggest shock for me.
contrary to most experiences i've read, my childhood, while focused on witness matters was still pretty happy.
our family always seemed to fall on "family first, religion second".

Have to agree with Talesin on this one.
The only time my Mom ever saw my Dad cry was when they heard my gay brother was being DFed. It was excruciating for my parents, but they shunned my brother out of (twisted) love for God and (twisted) love for my brother.
It was also my personal shunning of my brother that finally broke through my Cognitive Dissonance and started me down the path to awakening.
To be fair, I get your point. Shunning is non-action. But, for most, it is not without great pain.
